When it comes to political views, plural families in Utah have historically been predominantly conservative. Family values, First and Second Amendment protections along with limited and fiscally conservative government, have generally driven plural communities to the polls to vote their conscience.
While there are a number of issues splitting mainstream conservatives this election cycle (Trump vs no-Trump, school choice, etc), plural families are forced to have a different set of priorities.
DCCSOCIETY.ORG conducts in-person, phone and email interviews with candidates each election cycle. Judging by their answers, some local conservative Republicans in Utah would force plural families to choose between conservative family values and their right to exist.
If the conservative leaning Republican candidate in a district thinks plural families should be "broken up or locked up" and their liberal Democratic opponent has no issue with plural families between consenting adults, we must recommend voting for the Democrat, even if most of our views don't align.
Plural communities typically change the outcome in a number of local races in Utah each election cycle.
We hope that candidates from both parties will adopt a policy of equal rights and peaceful coexistence toward law-abiding plural families.
