The DCCS released a response regarding two separate incidents of alleged crimes committed against a young gay couple in Sandy, UT:
From the founding of our organization, our teachings have stressed the idea of a belief in God and the Golden Rule. Our founders believed, just as is taught today, that God cannot be pleased with any attack or conflict between individuals because of differences in race, religion, belief or way of life.
Hateful teachings absolutely do not align with our core beliefs and values.
While we don't know any more details of the incidents than what is available in the media, the Davis County Cooperative Society unequivocally condemns any disrespectful slurs, vandalism, acts of violence or any other means of unlawful coercion because an individual's or a group's beliefs differ from our own.
Just as we want our own freedom to associate, freedom of religion, and the freedom to act and believe according to our conscience, we must also protect those freedoms for others.
We support law enforcement and the judicial system in their efforts to address any incident where an individual's rights are violated.
