EDUCATION IN CRISIS!!

After 90 years of abuse in the public school system, DCCS members are facing another key milestone in their history.

The DCCS strives to secure education opportunities for its members, especially in cases where those opportunities wouldn't otherwise be available to them.

This is nothing new. For many years, DCCS members have been systematically excluded from positions in their communities simply because they were members. High school graduation rates among DCCS youth began diverging from the surrounding population in 1960, eventually dipping as much as 25% below the surrounding population in 1990 (85% vs 60%). These rates have only recovered recently, finally surpassing the surrounding population due in large part because of the environment created by the efforts of DCCS members to increase accessible options to children in the DCCS. Read more about the history here...

Recently, the Utah State Charter School Board (SCSB) has taken steps to DCCS members in public education simply due to their membership or perceived association with the DCCS. Read more about recent events with the SCSB here..

These actions tell DCCS students, Utah still considers you a 2nd class citizen!

The stories of discrimination are not just isolated incidents! They are systematic. They are statewide. They cross into many cities, and districts. They have come from all levels of Utah's education system; from educators and staff, to administrators and University President's. Please help by speaking up against the discrimination and abuse of children in the public school system!
